Course Summary

This course gives learners the practical knowledge needed to safely install and recover telecommunications cables where they cross over low-voltage power lines or pass through trees. It covers the correct equipment, techniques, and safe working methods required to carry out these tasks to the expected industry standard.


The qualification makes sure that anyone working near low-voltage overhead lines or in areas where trees create a hazard is properly trained and accredited in line with National Occupational Standards (NOS).

Course Timings

Day 1 Registration: 8:15 am

Day 1 Training: 8:30 am - 4 pm


Late arrival policy: CASS Training Academy reserves the right to refuse entry to any delegate arriving 15 minutes or more after the course start time. Full course fees will still apply.


What You Will Learn

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Identify the key legislation that applies when installing or recovering telecoms cables over low-voltage power lines and through trees

  • Explain the safe working requirements for cable installation and recovery in overhead environments involving power lines and trees

  • Select and use the correct equipment and methods for overhead cable installation in these conditions

  • Describe the emergency and reporting procedures to follow if something goes wrong


Who This Course Is For

This course is designed for anyone who will be working in an overhead telecommunications environment. It is particularly relevant for operatives, engineers, and contractors involved in installing or recovering cables where low-voltage power crossings or trees are present.

*Candidates over the weight of 18 stone are unable to climb BT ladder systems due to safety restrictions.


Prerequisites

Learners must hold SA001 and IPAF 1b if using MEWP. Learners must be at least 16 years old.


PPE Requirements

Safety boots with a stepped heel are required for ladder use.


Certification

Learners who successfully meet all assessment criteria will be awarded the Smart Awards SA008 Cable Installation Over Overhead Obstacles accreditation certificate.

Entry may be refused after 15 minutes

CASS Training Academy reserves the right to refuse entry to any delegate arriving 15 minutes or more after the course start time. The full course fee remains payable in that case.
